Boy group EXO is finally back with their seventh full album, EXIST, which was officially released on Monday July 10, 2023. Their title track for this album is titled Cream Soda. The MV for the song can also be watched on SM Entertainment's official YouTube channel.
The EXIST album contains 9 tracks including Cream Soda and two previously released songs, Hear Me Out and Let Me In. The other six tracks combine various musical genres and synth sounds, from Regret It, Private Party, Cinderella, No Makeup, Love Fool, and Another Day.
Usually EXO releases a Mandarin version for their title track as they did in their previous albums. But at EXIST, they didn't include a Chinese version of Cream Soda. SM Entertainment called Cream Soda a sexy track and highlighted the cool side of each EXO member.
This song combines elements of pop dance with exotic rhythms, upbeat brass, combined with the sound of keyboards and drums. The lyrics describe a moment of falling in love as soft and thrilling as cream soda. If in the previous two MVs (Hear Me Out and Let Me In) all members participated including Kai, this was not the case with the 'Cream Soda' Music Video.
EXO-L must lose the figure of Kai with his distinctive energetic dance in this MV. There were only seven members who appeared in the Cream Soda MV namely Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, DO, Sehun, Chen, and Xiumin. The MV for this song has the nuances of debauchery.
The EXO members seemed to be holding a secret party attended by only seven people. They were having fun and drinking in a sparkling room as if they were celebrating something. This party scene is combined with the choreography shots and beauty shots of each member that will make EXO-L melt like cream in the middle of a hot day.
Cream Soda itself is a song written by Adrian Mckinnon, Bobby Candler, Ebenezer Fabiyi, Kwame "KZ" Kwei-Armah Jr., Moon, Seol Ree, and Tre Jean-Marie. Kwame "KZ" Kwei-Armah Jr., Tre Jean-Marie, and IMLAY produced the track. The names of the Cream Soda songwriters are already familiar in EXO's discography.
He previously composed the songs Tempo, Obsession, Lotto, to the b-sides on The War's album entitled Forever. This is the first time Bobby Candler, Kwame "KZ" Kwei-Armah Jr., Tre Jean-Marie, and Ebenezer Fabiyi have written/produced a song for EXO. While Moon previously worked on the song 1 Billion Views for EXO-SC. IMLAY itself is one of the artists under the management of SM Entertainment.
