Fans of the late ASTRO's Moonbin protested on social media by raising the hashtag to boycott Fantigio for commercializing ASTRO's Moonbin memorial. After ASTRO's Moonbin was found dead at his home last April 2023, many fans wanted to leave flowers, letters or other objects as a sign of condolences for the singer's passing.
At that time, the family had not yet determined the right room for fans to visit because the funeral process was carried out behind closed doors. Finally, flower arrangements and letters were temporarily placed around the Fantagio agency building until they moved to a temple called Gukcheongsa.
It turns out that Gukcheongsa Temple is hard to find if you search on the internet, so Fantagio moved the location of ASTRO's Moonbin memorial back to Seonunsa Temple, which is located 4 hours drive from Seoul. This transfer takes effect from December 1, 2023.
Later, every fan who comes to Seonunsa Temple will get free food and is advised to stay overnight at the temple. Fantagio also arranged for items and letters from Moonbin's friends, family, especially artists to be displayed at Seonunsa Shrine for fans to see.
Because of this idea, fans consider that the ASTRO Moonbin memorial is no longer like a place of mourning but an exhibition to attract tourists who want to send prayers or just say hello to the ASTRO Moonbin memorial.
This commercial intention regarding ASTRO's Moonbin memorial is also supported by fans' findings that there is a business agreement with Seonunsa Temple in September 2023 in the name of "Developing the Kpop culture industry".
Fans asked Fantagio not to take advantage of Moonbin's life and fans' condolences to get money from fans' visits to Seonunsa Temple. Currently, the Fantagio boycott hashtag has invited anger from various groups of fans, not only ASTRO fans or especially Moonbin, but all fans who also think Fantigio's actions are wrong.
