BTS' Jungkook confirmed to have served as a chef during his mandatory military service. This news emerged for the first time since the youngest member of the BTS boy group entered the 5th Division of the South Korean Army in December 2023.
A number of South Korean media on Tuesday March 19, 2024 reported that Jungkook had been selected to become a chef after completing his basic military training. This new position allows him to further explore the culinary skills he has been pursuing and often shared with fans before serving in the military.
Jungkook BTS often shares his love of cooking with ARMY (BTS fans) through a series of cooking moments on live streaming or Weverse. He has tried various types of dishes, from pasta to typical South Korean buckwheat noodles.
Previously, on March 16, 2024, Jungkook gave the latest news regarding his military training period which fans had long awaited on the Weverse community platform. This message is the first news since he began military service at the end of 2023.
"I'm fine. I've also been exercising a lot. I did a good job cleaning up to the ceiling," said Jungkook in his latest message, quoted on Friday March 22, 2024. "I also cook well. It's already the middle of March. See you later. I really miss you. Unity!" he continued.
On the other hand, all BTS members are currently undergoing military service. Jin is the first member to start his duties on December 13, 2022. He is said to be completing his duties on June 12, 2024.
Furthermore, J-Hope followed as the second member by starting his mandatory military service on April 18 and officially completing his duties on October 17 2024. BTS' Suga followed the two previous members on September 22, 2023.
However, he served as a social service agent due to an injury he had suffered so he did not pass the basic selection for mandatory military training. He will most likely complete his duties in February 2025 after serving for 21 months.
Furthermore, RM and V will start their military service on December 11, 2023 and end in June 2025. Meanwhile, Jimin and Jungkook will enter the military exactly one day later, namely December 12, 2023. The seven BTS members are estimated to be ready to comeback as a complete group in 2025.
