NCT's Renjun released a statement of apology via personal Instagram after incorrectly distributing the phone number of a suspected stalker or sasaeng. Reporting from Soompi on Friday June 21, 2024 KST time, Renjun's apology came after his agency, SM Entertainment, released a written clarification.
After going through a more detailed search, the number that Renjun had distributed was not the number of the sasaeng who had been terrorizing him. This number is an ordinary civilian number who dialed the wrong number and ended up calling Renjun.
"I apologize to those who were negatively impacted by my irresponsible behavior yesterday. I always want to spread positive energy through music and performances, but I think I made a bad decision because of the wrong judgment," said Renjun.
"I sincerely apologize to the individuals who were hurt and negatively impacted by my actions. Due to my reckless behavior, the victim is suffering at this time. Please stop contacting the victim." he continued. Continuing the apology, the musician admitted that he was sorry for his actions and promised to be careful in the future.
The incident began on Tuesday June 11, 2024, when Renjun voiced his frustration with sasaengs via the fan communication platform, Bubble. Renjun revealed that there were sasaengs who spread out his personal schedule, sat next to him during flights, and even took photos while he was asleep.
As a result of this incident, Renjun intends to reveal the sasaeng's telephone numbers if they still bother him. On June 20, 2024, someone called Renjun's number and thought the number belonged to an acquaintance. Renjun threatened and openly revealed the number through his Bubble.
The owner of the number, who was disturbed by the attacks of mysterious messages from many people, finally released a clarifying statement on X (or Twitter) and demanded an explanation from SM Entertainment. The agency later released an apology and promised to correct the mistakes of the artists under it.
"Hello, this is SM Entertainment. On June 20, 2024, NCT member Renjun mistakenly revealed an unknown person's phone number on a fan communication platform, believing that the number belonged to a sasaeng," wrote SM Entertainment.
