Song Kang Ho was reportedly paid a fantastic amount for his performance in the Korean drama ' Uncle Samsik '. The fee is estimated to be more than a quarter of the drama's production costs. Quoting from KBIZoom June 8, 2024 a casting director, who has 10 years of experience working with global OTT, revealed Song Kang Ho's estimated salary.

"I heard that Song Kang Ho, who made his drama debut with 'Uncle Samsik', received 700 million won per episode," he said. Although the production company and Disney+ remain silent regarding the amount of the actor's fee, the managers of several other 'Uncle Samsik' actors said that Song Kang Ho's appearance fee per episode is 700 million won.

This amount is lower than Lee Jung Jae who was paid 1.3 billion won, for each episode of 'Squid Game 2'. Some people think 700 million won is reasonable, considering that Song Kang Ho is a veteran actor. An official in the film industry said, “Song Kang Ho was paid 800 million won for the film 'Parasite', but it is surprising that he got 700 million won per episode for a global OTT drama.

There seems to be no way for local capital to surpass US OTT platforms that have huge financial power.” Regarding Song Kang Ho's appearance fee, Sublime's agency explained that the actor signed a contract with Slingshot Studio, the production company of 'Uncle Samsik', for a 10-episode drama and finished filming before the number of episodes increased to 16 after editing.

Therefore, he earned less than 400 million won for 16 episodes. However, many people regret that the drama 'Uncle Samsik' is not very popular compared to other dramas that aired at the same time.  Officials in the film industry also said that Disney+ may have to review its entire Korean business, following the failure of the drama 'Blood Free' starring Han Hyo Joo and Joo Ji Hoon.

The low level of interest in the drama 'Uncle Samsik' should be a source of introspection because they have incurred expensive production costs. The drama 'Uncle Samsik' was initially highly anticipated and had 11 episodes released, but failed to attract attention due to its uninteresting directing, slow development and greedy narration. Meanwhile, 'Uncle Samsik' is set in the early 1960s and tells the story of the friendship and ambition between two men, Sam Sik (Song Kang Ho) and Kim San (Byun Yo Han).
