The latest film from South Korea, Wonderland, is confirmed to be released in the near future. This sci-fi and romance genre film will be released on the Netflix streaming service after officially airing in Korean cinemas since early June 2024.
The information was conveyed directly by Netflix Indonesia through the latest upload on social media on Monday July 1, 2024. In the announcement, a series of photos of Wonderland scenes featuring a number of famous Korean actors were also seen.
"This is what we've been waiting for. Tang Wei, Suzy , Park Bo-gum, Jung Yu-mi, and Choi Woo-shik star in a sci-fi film about a world with advanced technology that can reunite humans with the deceased," wrote @NetflixID on X (or Twitter).
"Directed by Kim Tae-yong, Wonderland arrives on Netflix this July," the post continued. However, there is no official information regarding the release date of Wonderland on Netflix. Wonderland starring Suzy and Park Bo-gum tells the story of a romantic love story in a virtual world called Wonderland.
In this world, users can meet loved ones who no longer exist in the real world. Many stories will be presented in the film with a line-up of characters starring famous actors in South Korea, including Choi Woo-shik, Jung Yu-mi, Tang Wei, and Gong Yoo.
Suzy and Park Bo-gum are cast to play a young couple named Jeong In and Park Tae-joo. The two are unable to connect in the real world because Tae-joo has been in a coma for a long time. Meanwhile, Gong Yoo was chosen to play the character Sung-joon, a man who feels lost after his wife, Bai Li (Tang Wei), died.
Then, Choi Woo-shik and Jung Yu-mi play Seo Hae-ri and Kim Hyeon-soo, the managers of Wonderland. The film Wonderland was written and produced by director Kim Tae-yong, who is known for a number of hit films, such as Memento Mori (1999), Family Ties (2006), and Late Autumn (2011).
Kim Tae-yong is said to have started producing the film script since 2019. The filming process then began in April to September 2020, right before Park Bo-gum began his military service. The film has yet to be released in theaters until it officially opens on June 5, 2024 in South Korea.
