South Korean actor Choi Woo-shik is reportedly being eyed to star in the upcoming drama The Waking as the lead role. The news comes after reports from various local Korean media outlets regarding the actor's latest project. FABLE COMPANY, Choi Woo-shik's agency, said that it is reviewing The Waking project.
"It is one of the projects offered to him and is currently under review," said FABLE COMPANY, reported by Hankook Ilbo via Naver on Wednesday August 7, 2024. The Waking is a fantasy drama that tells the story of a secret organization tasked with controlling the giants in the world.
The organization must face other organizations that oppose them. Choi Woo-shik is reported to be playing the character Jun-ho. He is a staff who works at a product storage warehouse. Jun-ho is known as a diligent worker. However, his life changes drastically when he finds a mysterious stone.
The stone gives Jun-ho extraordinary powers. His body transforms into a giant, causing him to be caught in a polemic with several parties. The Waking was produced by director Kim Tae-gon, the figure behind the films The Pot (2009), Sunshine Boys (2012), Familyhood (2016), and Project Silence (2024).
However, there has been no further news regarding the writer who will sit down to work on the drama script. In fact, news about the supporting cast has not yet surfaced in public. The Waking is likely to be Choi Woo-shik's next project.
On the other hand, he recently starred in Melo Movie alongside Park Bo-young, Lee Jun-young, and Jeon So-nee. Choi Woo-shik is known for his success in many dramas, such as Rooftop Prince (2012), You Are My Destiny (2014), Pride and Prejudice (2014), Our Beloved Summer (2021), and A Killer Paradox (2024).
He even successfully spread his wings in several hit films, starting from Train to Busan (2016), Okja (2017), The Witch: Part 1 (2018), Parasite (2019), to Wonderland (2024). Meanwhile, Choi Woo-shik in the Melo Movie project was also chosen as the main actor, also collaborating with Park Bo-young. The Waking is planned to air on Disney+ Hotstar in the first half of 2025.
