The public prosecutor is demanding a prison sentence for WINNER's Song Mino on charges of violating the Military Service Act. On Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at 10.00 local time, the Seoul Western District Court held the first trial for Song Mino and a social service manager with the initials Lee.
During the trial, the Prosecutor demanded a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison for Song Mino who had admitted to all charges. According to the indictment, Song Mino was found to have been absent from his duties for 102 days without valid reason while serving as a social service officer at the Mapo-gu City Management Facility between March 2023 and December 2024.
Given that a social service officer's effective working period is approximately 430 days (excluding weekends and holidays), Song Mino was recorded as having been absent from duty for nearly a quarter of his total service period. In fact, in July 2024, he only attended work for four of the 23 days he was supposed to have worked.
In his final statement, Song Mino delivered a profound apology to the public. "I apologize to everyone." "I should not have used bipolar disorder and panic disorder as an excuse to neglect my national defense obligations. I feel ashamed and regretful. If given the opportunity to serve again after my health recovers, I am willing to do so," he said.
Meanwhile, defendant Lee, who was in charge of managing Song Mino's office, denied the charges. Lee's side stated that they were not involved in Mino's breach of duty. However, prosecutors believe there was negligence in supervision. Lee is suspected of knowing about Song Mino's unusual absence but still allowed it or neglected his supervisory responsibilities.
