Kim Tae Ri will star in the new Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born, which is adapted from a webtoon. Ahead of its airing, it was revealed that Kim Tae Ri's character was originally described as homosexual. Just like in the original webtoon Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born.

For her role in the Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born, Kim Tae Ri willingly made a transformation by cutting her hair short. The 34-year-old actress looks boyish with a pixie cut. She was first seen with her short hair while attending the fashion brand EVERGREEN ENERGY event on Thursday (October 26, 2023.

Fans had wondered why Kim Tae Ri cut her hair. Until finally it was revealed that Kim Tae Ri was preparing to film the Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born. The Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born will follow the story of Kim Tae Ri as Jeong Nyeon, who sells shellfish with her mother at the market every day.

Her character has a talent for singing and has ambitions to become a famous traditional theater actress. Recently, MBC sued tvN for allegedly 'stealing' the production of the Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born without consent. Amid the controversy over copyright, the drama starring Kim Tae Ri has been in the spotlight because the actress was initially described as a lesbian.

In the original webtoon Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born, Jeong Nyeon (played by Kim Tae Ri) had a special relationship with a woman named Bu Yong. However, the production team decided to delete Bu Yong's character and their love story.

The production team of the Korean drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born did this because LGBT characters can be a sensitive topic. "We held a script reading with several actors at MBC and because the original webtoon was about sensitive GL (Girls Love) themes, there was a discussion about character adjustments.

This is a matter of principle. The production house never once apologized or tried to negotiate. Isn't it understandable why MBC felt betrayed?" a source said, as reported by Koreaboo. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Ri began her acting debut by playing a lesbian character in the film The Handmaiden.

The film, which aired in 2016, successfully catapulted her name to fame and was named 'Best New Actress' at the Busan Film Critics Awards, Buil Film Awards, Asian Film Awards, and Director's Cut Awards. In the film The Handmaiden, Kim Tae Ri is shown in an explicit intimate scene with Korean actress Kim Min Hee.
