Liam Payne, Former One Direction Member Dies at Age 31

Former member of the boyband One Direction, Liam Payne, was found dead on Wednesday October 16, 2024 Argentina time at the age of 31. Local police said the musician died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In a statement, Buenos Aires police said they were called to the hotel in the Palermo area after receiving information about "an aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol." The hotel manager said he heard a loud noise at the back of the hotel, Reuters reported . 

When they arrived, they found a man had fallen from his balcony with his body on the hotel's inner terrace. Emergency services later confirmed the death of the 31-year-old British musician, but police have yet to confirm whether Liam Payne accidentally fell. Reuters reporters at the scene also saw large crowds gathered outside the hotel. 

Dozens of police and emergency services teams cordoned off the area as night fell. "We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Liam Payne's passing today. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers remain with his family, loved ones and fans," MTV tweeted on X following the news of Liam Payne's death. 

Liam Payne is one of the members of the boyband One Direction. The boyband was formed in 2010 and became a legendary boyband in its time. One Direction consists of Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. 

They were formed after appearing on the British talent show The X Factor. One Direction was ranked the third greatest boy band of all time by Entertainment Weekly in 2024. Meanwhile, according to Celebrity Net Worth, thanks to his One Direction career and as a solo artist, Liam Payne has a net worth of $70 million.

However, in 2016, the group that sang the song What Makes You Beautiful announced that they would go on an indefinite hiatus, but did not disband. Liam Payne then pursued a career as a soloist by working on a solo album in the same year, following in the footsteps of the other One Direction members.
