Ahn Hyo Seop is now likely to make a drama comeback soon. On October 31, Korean media reported that the 1995-born actor was being eyed to star in a drama titled "Le Paradis Noir", which is based on a 2022 mystery novel of the same name.
"Le Paradis Noir" tells the story of a chaebol heir born out of wedlock and a male escort who works at a secret club in Cheongdam-dong. The drama will be directed by Yoon Jong Ho of "Lovely Runner."
According to information, Hyo Seop will play Cheon Guk, a former taekwondo athlete whose stepmother ran away with his father's life insurance money. The man works at a club as a female escort with the nickname Si Bel Homme. It is at the club that Cheon Guk meets Ji On, a woman 12 years his senior.
Although it sounds interesting, the news of the production of the drama "Le Paradis Noir" has drawn strong protests from netizens. Most expressed concerns about the premise of Cheon Guk's character as a male companion, or "host bar worker" in Korean.
" The premise is outdated, seriously [sic!] ," wrote one netizen. " Calling him a male escort makes it sound better than it is. That's prostitution. No need to K-Drama it, ugh [sic!] ," added another.
" Please stop bringing prostitution into K-Dramas. It's disgusting [sic!] ," another netizen said. " The whole premise is disgusting. It's disappointing that people are still trying to make K-Dramas about things like this. And the actors are willing to act in them [sic!] ," another netizen added.
The strong protests from netizens were apparently realized by director Jong Ho. He clarified through the production team, Simstory, that Hyo Seop was still considering the offer. "Nothing has been set yet," said the director.
Meanwhile, Hyo Seop has yet to star in a new drama in 2024. However, the actor is busy filming the movie "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" with Lee Min Ho, BLACKPINK 's Jisoo, Nana, Chae Soo Bin and many more.
