Ariana Grande has come under fire for her comments about notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. The singer of 'The Boy Is Mine' is considered to have hurt the feelings of the families who were victims of Dahmer's cruelty. Last week, the 31-year-old guested on Penn Badgley's podcast 'Podcrushed'.
In the chat, Grande recalled a time she attended a Nickelodeon fan meet-and-greet where a kid asked her about her dream dinner guest. "I thought, Jeffrey Dahmer is very interesting. I think I would be very happy to meet him.
Maybe through a third party or someone involved," she said, as quoted by the Huffington Post. Ariana's statement drew a strong response from Shirley Hughes, the mother of Tony Hughes, one of Dahmer's victims. Tony, who was deaf and mute, was killed by Dahmer in 1991.
Shirley considered such remarks to be very inappropriate, especially from a world celebrity. She even called Ariana's mind sick. "To me, it sounds like he's sick in the head. It's not nice or funny to say you want to have dinner with him.
It's not something you should say to young kids," Shirley told TMZ. Shirley added that she wanted Ariana to understand how hurtful her comments were, especially since she and the other victims' families feel a deep sense of pain every time they hear Dahmer's name mentioned.
The victim's sister, Barbara Hughes-Holt, said Ariana's comments seemed to glorify the notorious serial killer. "Unfortunately, until it happened to him and his family, he had no idea what we had been through," he said. Regarding Ariana's statement which has drawn criticism, management has not yet responded.
