Chris Evans officially stars in the Avengers: Doomsday film. He will make his comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) saga after last appearing in Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The news of Chris Evans' return to the MCU was confirmed by several Hollywood media, such as Deadline on Monday December 9, 2024.

However, there is no other information regarding the character that Chris Evans will play in Avengers: Doomsday. Sources say Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will appear as Captain America, in keeping with current events in the MCU. This situation makes the possibility of Chris Evans becoming Captain America slim.

However, that doesn't mean the possibility is closed. The concept of the multiverse created by the MCU in its current phase makes the appearance of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers will remain open. The appearance will also be Evans' comeback since his last role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The character's journey ended after Rogers appeared at the end of the story in his old condition and handed over his shield to Sam Wilson. He then appeared as a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, his appearance was as Johnny Storm or Human Torch from his character in Fantastic Four.

On the other hand, Chris Evans becomes the second actor confirmed to join Avengers: Doomsday. He follows in the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. who was introduced as Doctor Victor von Doom. Avengers: Doomsday is confirmed to feature the MCU version of the Fantastic Four characters played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The Russo Brothers are also said to be directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The two were brought together again by Marvel Studios to sit as directors after being announced by President Kevin Feige while filling the stage at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) on Saturday July 27, 2024 local time.

They first contributed to the MCU when they directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 and followed it up with the second film, Captain America: Civil War in 2016. The Russo Brothers then served as directors for the last two Avengers films, namely Infinity War in 2018 and Endgame in 2019. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
