IU and Byeon Woo Seok have been paired in the latest Korean drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince. The news of their reunion was officially announced by Kakao Entertainment on, Monday on December 2, 2024. This is not the first time IU and Byeon Woo Seok have been paired together in a project.

Previously in 2016, Byeon Woo Seok was IU's ex-boyfriend in the Korean drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo before his character traveled back in time. Their love story ended tragically because Byeon Woo Seok cheated on IU with her best friend.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo even became one of the dramas that marked Byeon Woo Seok's acting debut, after transitioning from his profession as a model. Eight years ago, he only appeared as a supporting actor.

However, now Byeon Woo Seok is side by side with IU as the main actor in Wife of a 21st Century Prince. Korean drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince is set in South Korea during the constitutional monarchy era. Which means the king's power will be limited by the basic law or constitution.

Viewers of the Korean drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince will follow the love story of Sung Hee Joo (played by IU), a conglomerate heir who has everything but is only a commoner with Lee Ahn (played by Byeon Woo Seok), a prince who has nothing, even though he comes from royalty.

IU will transform as Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of a prominent conglomerate family in South Korea. Her character was born with a beautiful face, intelligence, and competitive nature. However, her status as a commoner suddenly becomes an obstacle in her life and she begins to get involved with Prince Lee Ahn.

Her co-star, Byeon Woo Seok, transforms into Prince Lee Ahn, who has nothing but his status as the king's second son. After hiding his identity as a prince his entire life, Lee Ahn undergoes a major change when he meets Sung Hee Joo.

Wife of a 21st Century Prince is IU's second drama confirmed to air in 2025. Previously, IU was confirmed to star in the Korean drama When Life Gives You Tangerines with Park Bo Gum, who also co-starred with Byeon Woo Seok in the Korean drama Record of Youth (2020).
