On February 14, 2025, Korean media outlet TenAsia released an article claiming that after changing their name from NewJeans to NJZ, the members will likely sign with Beasts And Natives Alike (BANA).
The report quoted several industry insiders as claiming that although NJZ has not officially signed a contract with BANA, the agency is already acting as their management and handling Minji and co.'s current activities.
TenAsia media also mentioned that BANA and former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin have a close relationship. The reason is, several producers associated with the label have also worked with Hee Jin.
Shortly after the TenAsia media article was uploaded, NJZ immediately gave a firm response via their Instagram account. They even immediately mentioned the media and the name of the reporter who made the wrong article.
"Hello. We would like to inform you that the article titled 'NJZ Partners with BANA' by TenAsia reporter Lee Min Kyung, which was recently released, is completely false. NJZ has not signed any agreement with BANA, nor have there been any discussions," they said.
"The article quoted 'testimonies from several industry insiders', but it was a complete lie," NJZ added, alleging that the purpose of releasing the article was simply to create controversy.
"It seems that the goal was to create controversy by publishing the article without confirming the facts with the parties involved or BANA," they said. After that, NJZ confirmed that it would take legal action against the media.
"We plan to file a complaint with the Press Arbitration Commission and take strong legal action against TenAsia for spreading these false claims without verifying the facts," they said. NJZ claimed that the media outlet had often published false articles.
"In the past, TenAsia has repeatedly published completely false information, presenting it as fact, resulting in many articles causing severe mental distress to members and many others involved," they said.
NJZ hopes that TenAsia reporter Min Kyung will be held legally responsible for this article and the spread of these false claims. "We apologize for causing further disturbance tonight before the weekend. May you have a peaceful night," they concluded.
