SHINee's Key recently expressed his deep feelings for the late Jonghyun. On the episode of tvN's ' You Quiz on the Block ' that aired on February 12, 2025, Key appeared as a guest with his mother, Kim Sun Hee. On the show, he shared emotional memories of Jonghyun and how his passing had a huge impact on his life.
Key admitted that he was shaken after losing Jonghyun. "At that time, I was really shaken. I kept asking myself, 'What is the meaning of life? Should I quit everything?'" he said. However, he and the other SHINee members chose to face the loss together.
One of the hardest moments was the concert at the Tokyo Dome. "We thought that if there was no opportunity to honor him as a group, it would be very difficult to move forward. That's how we wanted to send him off - by remembering his short but shining youth," Key added, as quoted by Allkpop on Thursday February 13, 2025.
Key also shared how much he still misses Jonghyun, especially on SHINee's birthday and debut anniversary. "Every time there's a new song that he can't record with us, I often think, 'He would have done really well with this,'" she said, her eyes filling with tears. More than that, he felt that Jonghyun was still present in his life.
"He often appears in my dreams when I'm practicing. Not as a sign or a message, but he's there, sitting in the middle during concert meetings, during practices. SHINee will always be five. It always will be," he said. Jonghyun, who debuted with SHINee in 2008, is known for various hit songs such as 'Replay', 'Ring Ding Dong', 'Love Like Oxygen', 'Dream Girl', and 'View'.
His passing on December 18, 2017, at the age of 27, left deep sorrow for the members of SHINee and his loyal fans, SHINee World or Shawol. Key's emotional words once again prove that even though Jonghyun is gone, his memory and influence live on in SHINee and the hearts of fans around the world.
