Robert Pattinson is reportedly being eyed to join the cast of Dune : Messiah. The film for the final Dune saga is scheduled to begin filming in the summer of 2025. Sources have told Variety that there is an intention for the project to bring Robert Pattinson on board for the film, which is still being written by Denis Villeneuve.
However, there has been no official offer given to Pattinson by Legendary as the studio, including the character that will be played by the actor who plays Mickey 17. Meanwhile, Variety on Tuesday April 8, 2025 stated that Legendary chose to remain silent and not comment on the news.
Robert Pattinson and Zendaya themselves in August 2024 were announced to play together in the A24 project, The Drama. Zendaya herself is currently still filming for Christopher Nolan's latest project, The Odyssey.
On the other hand, Robert Pattinson is still busy with the sequel to The Batman which is scheduled to air in 2027. In April 2024, Dune was confirmed to continue the story into a third film. Dune 3 will be directed by Legendary Studios again.
In addition, Denis Villeneuve also returned to work on the third Dune film as a writer and director for the film. Dune 3 will be based on Frank Herbert's popular novel Dune Messiah , which follows Paul Atreides, who is now Emperor but faces the consequences of being the Fremen's messiah.
On the other hand, the film Dune: Part Two has been released three years since the Dune saga opened amid the pandemic in 2021. The sequel to the sci-fi film is still based on Frank Herbert's Dune novel which was released in 1965.
Dune: Part Two itself tells the story of Paul Atreides and Lady Jessica's journey after successfully escaping from the attack of House Harkonnen. They also meet the Fremen on Arrakis. A group of Fremen believe Paul to be Lisan al Gaib or the savior.
However, Paul does not believe this and says that his motivation is only to fight with the Fremen. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson recently launched his latest project titled Mickey 17. The film is also a collaboration between the actor and Oscar-winning director from South Korea, Bong Joon-ho.
Mickey 17 is an adaptation of Edward Ashton's novel Mickey7 which was published in 2022. The film was written and directed by director Bong Joon-ho after working on the film Parasite (2019) which successfully won many records, including taking home the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay trophies at the 2020 Oscars.
Bong Joon-ho also served as producer on the film Mickey 17, working with Doo Ho Choi, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. Apart from Robert Pattinson, a number of famous Hollywood actors also appear in Mickey 17, starting from Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, to Toni Collette.
Mickey 17 tells the story of a young man named Mickey (Robert Pattinson) who is at a space base and is undergoing an experiment, even though he doesn't really know what the experiment will involve. He turns out to be a test subject for an experiment on an ice planet discovered by humanity.
Mickey must complete each mission after mission to learn about the new planet. If he dies in the middle of the mission, Mickey will be revived with a new body and the same memories. Mickey also dies repeatedly due to various accidents or attacks by wild creatures.
