'Mercy for None' is a new Korean drama starring actor So Ji-sub. This series is also the actor's comeback project to the small screen in the last three years after he played in Doctor Lawyer in 2022.
The story in Mercy for None focuses on a former mafia enforcer who returns with a vicious vengeance to hunt down his brother's killer and take out his anger on Seoul's hidden underworld. In his past, Nam Gi-jun (So Ji-sub) was a member of the Bongsan Gang.
The gang was led by Gu Bong-San (Ahn Kil-Kang) who also played the role of the main law enforcer of the Seoul underworld. Nam Gi-Jun managed to defeat many other gangs through various fierce battles until the gang began to develop into a large company.
However, Nam Gi-Jun finally decided to leave the mafia world by leaving the gang. On the other hand, his younger brother, Nam Gi-seok (Lee Jun-hyuk) actually joins Juwoon Group which is led by Lee Ju-woon (Huh Joon-ho). The brothers are in two gangs that turn out to be rivals.
For the sake of his brother, Nam Gi-jun decided to leave the Bongsan Gang by cutting his left Achilles tendon. 11 years later, Nam Gi-jun has been enjoying his life peacefully and making a living by supplying drinks to businesses run in Bongsan. Meanwhile, Gi-seok, he has just been appointed by Lee Ju-woon to replace him as the leader of Juwoon.
After that, Gi-seok who is currently in power immediately visits the managing director, who is also the son of Bongsan leader Gu Jun-mo (Gong Myung). Jun-mo has been annoying people a lot lately, and Gi-seok is determined to punish the man.
The reprimand has managed to embarrass the rightful heir's pride, so he vows to kill Gi-seok. Not long after the incident, Gi-seok was found dead. Gi-jun, who had left the mafia world more than a decade ago, decided to return to the underground world to take revenge on the various parties responsible for his brother's death.
Mercy for None is a series adapted from a webtoon titled Plaza Wars: Mercy for None by O Se-hyung and Kim Gyun-tae. The storyline of the drama version was written by Yoo Ki-seong and directed by director Choi Sung-eun (Little Sister).
This seven-episode series also stars various talented Korean actors, such as Choo Yeong-woo, Jo Han-chul, Jung Gun-joo, and Cha Seung-won. So Ji-sub is a famous actor in South Korea who was born on November 4, 1977.
The actor first entered the entertainment industry as a model for a jeans brand in 1995. He also made his acting debut by playing in a sitcom titled Three Guys and Three Girls. Ji-sub started his acting career by playing small roles in the late 1990s.
His popularity began to rise after playing in Glass Slippers (2002). He was then chosen to make his main role debut in a historical drama titled Thousand Years of Love. His name skyrocketed again through the drama What Happened in Bali (2004).
He also tried out many film projects, starting from Rough Cut, U-Turn, Sophie's Revenge, Always, A Company Man, The Throne, The Battleship Island, Be with You, Alineoid, to the latest Confession (2022). Mercy for None starts airing on Netflix on June 6, 2025.
