Lee Min Ho expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the big screen through the film 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint'. This film marks the actor's return to Korean cinema after his last appearance in 'Gangnam 1970' in 2015, and nine years since his role in the Chinese film 'Bounty Hunters'.
On Tuesday July 15, 2025, a press conference and media premiere for the film "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. The event was attended by director Kim Byung Woo and the main cast, including Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Min Ho, Chae Soo Bin, Shin Seung Ho, and Nana.
'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is a fantasy action film adapted from Sing Shong's popular web novel of the same name. The story follows Kim Dok Ja, an avid reader of the novel who suddenly finds herself trapped in a fictional world that becomes reality.
Together with the novel's main character, Yoo Joong Hyuk, and his colleagues, Kim Dok Ja struggles to survive in a world that has been destroyed. Lee Min Ho plays Yoo Joong Hyuk, the protagonist of the fictional novel 'Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World.'
The web novel has garnered over 200 million readers since its publication in 2018 and has also been adapted into a hugely popular webtoon. In a press conference, Lee Min Ho shared his views on the process of adapting popular works for the big screen.
"Nowadays, adapting successful IP (intellectual property) into visual content is commonplace. I tried to maintain the essence of the characters and the storyline of the original IP, while adding my own emotions and interpretations," he said.
Yoo Joong Hyuk, the character played by Lee Min Ho, is depicted as someone who prefers to work alone rather than collaborate with others, so his interactions with other characters in this film are quite limited. "I felt a bit lonely during filming because I didn't see many of the other actors on set.
I just watched from a distance and saw they were doing well," Lee Min Ho said with a smile. Despite this, he praised his fellow actors' professionalism. "Rather than offering advice, I focused more on genuinely immersing myself in my roles. All the actors here worked with dedication, without limits, and gave their best," he added.
The film also presented a new challenge for Lee Min Ho, especially since many scenes involved special effects and were filmed in front of a blue screen. "It seems like acting in front of a blue screen will become more common in the future as time goes on.
This makes imagination and creative thinking very important for an actor. I'm usually not much of a daydreamer, but this time I used my imagination a lot, and it was a very enriching experience," he said. 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2025.
