Ahn Hyo Seop recently shared an interesting story behind his role in the Netflix animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters.' In an interview, he shared his experience playing Jinu, the leader of the fictional K-Pop group Saja Boys and the grim reaper in the film.
Speaking about why he chose this project, Ahn Hyo Seop revealed, "I was immediately drawn to the character. Not only because of the K-Pop theme, but the script itself was very interesting. I always choose projects based on that."
He added, "Also, there was the opportunity to act in English, which has always been a desire of mine. I feel like this project allowed me to collaborate with the director in a more relaxed and in-depth way."
Regarding the dubbing process, he explained, "Dubbing does require a bit of exaggeration in expressions, but it's necessary to convey the character's emotions. The director, who is based in LA, was very helpful during the Zoom recording sessions."
"They gave me detailed direction, while also giving me the freedom to explore the ideas I had already developed. I also heard that they even used my facial expressions for the animated characters."
The director cast Ahn Hyo Seop after being impressed by his performance in the drama 'Business Proposal.' Interestingly, one of the songs from the drama was included in the film, which Ahn Hyo Seop said was a smart decision.
"I was surprised when the song from 'Business Proposal' was simply included in the original version, instead of the piano version I expected. It made me laugh, but I think it was a really clever choice to bring the Korean drama element to life," he said.
