Song Joong Ki is back in the romance genre for the first time in nearly a decade. The South Korean actor, who married Katy Louise Saunders in 2023, last starred in a traditional romance drama with the 2016 megahit Descendants of the Sun.

Now, after nine years, he headlines JTBC’s new Friday series My Youth. At a press conference held September 4, 2025 at The Link Hotel in Seoul’s Guro district, Song admitted with a smile, “It’s been a long time since I shot a romance project, and it was exciting.”

My Youth tells the story of Sun Woo Hae (Song Joong Ki), a former child star who burned through his prime too early and is now a novelist and florist, and Sung Je Yeon (Chun Woo Hee), who is forced to disrupt her first love’s peaceful life.

Reflecting on the role, Song explained, “Looking back at the characters I’ve played, many of them were heroes, wolves—people not really grounded in reality. With ‘My Youth,’ I liked that I got to play someone more realistic.”

When asked about working alongside Chun Woo Hee, Song was full of praise: “It was wonderful to the point it made me think, ‘I’m such a lucky person.’ I’d make plans at home for how to approach a scene, but once we got on set and I worked with her, everything would change.

The chemistry was that good.” The press event also featured Chun Woo Hee, Lee Ju Myoung, Seo Ji Hun, and director Lee Sang Yeob. Korean drama 'My Youth' premieres Friday September 5, 2025 at 8:50 PM KST on JTBC.
