Disney Plus series Delusion, starring Suzy and Kim Seon Ho, has abruptly canceled its planned shoot in China, sparking widespread speculation about the reason for the last-minute change.
Many in the industry believe the decision is fallout from a recent controversy involving a completely different Disney Plus K-drama. The controversy is reportedly connected to Disney Plus series Tempest.
In the show, a line spoken by Jun Ji Hyun’s character angered Chinese netizens when she questioned why China would want a war on the Korean peninsula, suggesting, “a nuclear bomb could fall on its border region.
The line sparked a backlash online, leading to boycott rumors against the actress which her agency has since denied. Following the backlash over Tempest, the production team for the upcoming drama has now called off its scheduled filming in Shanghai.
Stars Suzy and Kim Seon Ho, who were scheduled to travel in October, will now stay in South Korea to focus on domestic filming. When asked about the cancellation, the production company for Delusion gave a cautious response. China was one of the locations we were considering,” a representative told OSEN.
“However, filming locations are always subject to change depending on the project’s needs and the production environment. The team is now reportedly scouting for other international locations, including Vietnam, to replace the China shoot.
Delusion is a highly anticipated 1930s-set story about a painter commissioned to paint a mysterious woman. It comes from acclaimed film director Han Jae Rim and is slated for a 2026 release.
