The Seoul Western District Court on Thursday December 11, 2025 held the first trial for former WINNER member Nam Taehyun, who was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and excessive speeding).
Nam Taehyun appeared in court today, wearing a mask and with a tense expression. He admitted to all the charges brought by the prosecutor and stated that he would submit sentencing considerations related to his previous drunk driving record.
The judge set the next hearing for January 15, 2026. Nam Taehyun was caught on April 27th at around 4:10 a.m. while attempting to overtake a vehicle near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeon Riverside Route toward Ilsan, then crashed into the median.
There were no fatalities in the accident. Police investigations showed that Nam Taehyun was driving while drunk and traveling at speeds of up to 182 km/h (exceeding 102 km/h) on a road with a speed limit of 80 km/h. This isn't Nam Taehyun's first time being caught drunk driving.
In March 2023, while being investigated for drug possession, he was caught drunk driving and fined 6 million won. In January 2024, he was sentenced to one year in prison with two years' probation for violating the Narcotics Control Act. This time, he was caught driving under the influence again while still on probation.
The Yongsan Police Department initially requested an arrest warrant, but the court dismissed it after a substantial investigation. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office finally indicted Nam Taehyun without detention on July 14, 2025.
Under the applicable Road Traffic Act, driving at a speed exceeding 100 km/h of the prescribed limit can result in a fine of up to 1 million won or temporary detention. Nam Taehyun's side plans to submit materials to mitigate the sentence, and the final verdict is scheduled to be handed down at a hearing next January 2026.
