Actor Jo Jin Woong has officially announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. The announcement was made through a personal statement released by his agency, a day after media outlet Dispatch revealed the actor's dark past as a teenager.
On December 5, 2025, Dispatch released an exclusive report stating that Jo Jin Woong was involved in serious crimes while in high school, including vehicle theft and alleged sexual assault.
As a result of these actions, he was sent to a juvenile detention center. The report also stated that as an adult, Jo Jin Woong had been recorded as having committed assault and drunk driving.
In response to the report, Jo Jin Woong's agency immediately issued an apology for the actor's past "wrongdoings." However, the agency firmly denied any involvement in sexual harassment.
The following day, Jo Jin Woong released an official statement that read, "First of all, I bow my head in apology to everyone who has believed in and supported me for disappointing you with my shameful actions in the past."
"I humbly accept all criticism, and as of today, I will cease all activities and end my career as an actor. I believe this is the responsibility and obligation I must shoulder for my past mistakes."
He added, "Going forward, I will try my best to reflect on myself and live a righteous life as a human being. Once again, I sincerely apologize. Thank you to everyone I love and respect. I'm sorry."
As of the time of publication, there has been no official statement from the production team of the drama 'Signal 2', the sequel to the 2016 hit drama, which was originally supposed to star Jo Jin Woong and is scheduled to air in the first half of 2026.
