South Korean movie poster designer Park Si Young has sparked debate among K-Pop fans and industry insiders after sharply criticizing the special content released by the four-member group NewJeans to celebrate the group's debut anniversary.

On Wednesday (July 22, 2026), Park Si Young uploaded her comments on social media and frankly expressed her criticism of the video celebrating NewJeans' fourth debut anniversary.

Park Si Young, who is the poster designer for a number of famous South Korean films, such as The City of Violence, Mother, and The Wailing, considers the video concept to be outdated and irrelevant, he also compared the aesthetics of the content with the era of Korean music programs in the early 2000s.

He called NewJeans' content something that was very outdated and questioned the direction of the creative concept behind its creation, citing Allkpop , Thursday (July 23, 2026). "What kind of sensibility is this? Talentless kids just hitch a ride and copy everything," wrote Park Si Young.

His criticism also targeted the new lineup of NewJeans, which now consists of four members after Danielle's departure. He claimed the group had lost its identity compared to its previous lineup. He also allegedly took aim at Hybe, the parent label of NewJeans' agency, Ador.

"What would NewJeans be like with four members? It's like Attack on Titan without the attack. Someone with no common sense, only arrogance, starting a company and accepting large investments is a sin," he exclaimed.

The highlighted content is a special film uploaded to NewJeans' official YouTube channel. The video, created to commemorate the group's fourth debut anniversary, features Minji, Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni gathering on a summer night.

This special film is significant as it marks NewJeans' first full-length group content in nearly two years since the release of their Japanese debut song, Supernatural, in 2024. It also garnered attention from fans and the public, as it was released amidst the group's lineup changes and legal controversy involving its members.

Previously, after a legal dispute regarding the validity of the contract ended in a court ruling in favor of Ador, Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni were reported to have returned to the agency. Minji's status, however, has not been officially confirmed by Ador.

However, their appearance with three other members in the special film is seen by many industry observers as a strong signal that NewJeans is now back in action as a four-member idol group. As a film poster designer who has had a career since 2006, Park Si Young is also considered one of the influential figures in the South Korean creative industry.
