South Korean tech giant, Samsung has started rolling out the Expert RAW app for its latest flagship smartphones: the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Users can now download the app from the Galaxy Store. The Expert RAW app offers full manual camera controls, Adobe Lightroom integration and multi-frame capture, among other features. Moreover, it will be released for other premium Samsung handsets in the coming weeks.

Samsung's camera app already has a Pro mode for the primary and ultra-wide cameras on most of the premium handsets such as the Galaxy S22 series, S21 series, and others. However, with the Expert RAW app, users will be able to capture RAW images from the telephoto camera. This is particularly useful for S22 Ultra users since the handset packs a 10x periscope lens.

The Expert RAW app supports the main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras on the S22 phones, giving you full manual control over these sensors. You can tweak ISO, shutter speed, exposure, manual focus, and other parameters. The app also lets you save photographs in JPEG and Linear DNG 16-bit RAW formats. These files can be imported into Adobe Lightroom for editing.

In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ sport a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 10MP telephoto lens. Up front, they have a 10MP camera. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 108MP primary snapper, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 10MP telephoto lenses with up to 10x optical zoom. It has a 40MP camera on the front.

The Expert RAW app will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra in March. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will get it in April, while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S20 Ultra, and Z Fold 2 will get the app by June-July. The Galaxy S21, S21+, S20, S20+, and Note 20 will not get the app since they don't provide Bayer RAW output from the telephoto camera.
