South Korean singer, Lee Chae Yeon will officially debut with the release of her first solo mini album, HUSH RUSH. But a few days before his debut, the idol was involved in a plagiarism controversy. This happened after WM Entertainment, as management, released a preview of his debut album.
A number of fans later found similarities between the concept on Lee Chae Yeon's solo album and SHINee's Key who recently released his solo album Gasoline. WM Entertainment immediately released a statement shortly after the controversy was widely discussed by the public.
Management also explained a number of depictions that were suspected of being plagiarism of Key SHINee's solo album. "The album packaging uses the concept of 'Vampire Generation MZ', so we designed the album packaging as a transparent bag that shows various objects inside with two different versions, namely Vampires and Influencers," said WM Entertainment.
"Regarding the concept, the objects in the vampire version are items that vampires might carry such as large sunglasses, blood bags, and eyeballs. While the influencer version contains vampire exorcism themed items such as crosses, garlic, cell phones, and other objects for decoration," he continued.
Pictures that are suspected of plagiarism, such as eyeballs and lightning, are referred to by management as the objects chosen to express the vampire concept. Likewise with the main color of the cover with a Halloween theme. Likewise, the heart design on the front of the CD in the influencer version represents the vampire's heart.
Management also emphasized that there was no intention to imitate the previous concept. "We apologize for worrying fans who have been waiting for Lee Chae Yeon 's debut . We ask fans to show support for the HUSH RUSH album, which has been prepared in the long term," he concluded.
