Living under foreign colonization is certainly something that cannot be accepted by any nation that longs for independence. How not, as a colonized nation, they often have to face discrimination, to cruel treatment which is often beyond the limits of humanity. So it is not surprising if all the power and efforts are made by a nation that wants to free itself from the shackles of colonization by other nations, even though it has to risk its life.
Another thing that we always see when there is a nation that is the object of colonization by another nation is the arbitrary treatment aimed at the conquered nation. As we saw in the film called The Battleship Island, which was released by South Korea in 2017, we will see how cruel the Japanese were to the Korean people at the end of the second world war .
During the Japanese occupation period, approximately 400 Koreans were forced by the authorities to mine coal on an island known as "Battleship Island, which literally means Warship Island ". The Koreans, of course, did not remain silent. They always try to get out of the island, even though they always fail because of the tight guard. To replace the dead workers, the Japanese occupation army often captured Korean men and forced them to work on their Warship Island.
This fate also happened to Lee Kang Ok (played by Hwang Jung Min), a musician at Kyungsung Hotel. Desiring to go to Japan in order to protect the princess, Soo Hee (Kim Soo Ahn), Lee Kang Ok was captured by the Japanese army, and sent forcibly to Battleship Island. Despite the difficult circumstances, Lee Kang Ok's fatherly instincts remain strong, and he is willing to do anything to protect his daughter.
Arriving at Battleship Island, Lee Kang Ok met Korean residents with various backgrounds and temperaments. Like Choi Chil Sung who is a top class fighter in Kyungsung (Seoul City before changing his name) who likes to fight, makes trouble but actually has a warm heart. While on the other hand, Park Moo Young (played by Song Joong Ki), a soldier who devoted himself to the Korean independence movement, got the task of infiltrating Battleship Island to save an important figure in the independence movement.
However, when he got there, he realized that there were many problems he had to deal with. In addition to the suffering of the workers, Park Moo Young also has to deal with divisions between them, to the betrayal of the nation's struggle for personal gain. So, how is Park Moo Young's struggle to unite Koreans on Battleship Island? What does he do when he finds out there was a structured betrayal?
What else did he do to be able to free his countrymen from suffering on Battleship Island? All the answers are in the Battleship Island movie, yes. Note: Because this film is set in the colonial period, there will be many violent and bloody scenes in the scene. So, please be wise in watching it! Park Moo-Young (Song Joong-Ki) belongs to the Korean Independence group. He sneaks into Battleship Island to save the members of the independence group.
