Ten was directly involved in the concept of the music video for the song 'Birthday'

NCT's Ten has just released their newest single titled 'Birthday' through the 'SM STATION: NCT Lab' project on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Following the release of his new single, Ten also had the opportunity to have an interview with GRAMMY.com to further discuss the ins and outs of the song 'Birthday' and the exciting behind-the-scenes events during the album process.

Summarizing from the GRAMMY.com page on Wednesday November 11, 2022, the following is an interview excerpt from NCT's Ten regarding his latest single 'Birthday'. You first performed 'Birthday' on the reality show 'Dreat Dance Crew'. What's your reason for releasing the song for the NCT Lab solo project?

"I received the song when I was working on 'Paint Me Naked'. However, at that time I thought I was not in the mood to work on 'Birthday'. So I saved it for another opportunity," said Ten. He continued, "After releasing 'Paint Me Naked' I went to China to shoot a variety show, so I thought I was ready to perform this song, but it's only a teaser."

"So I worked on it after I returned to Korea. I thought I needed to release this song as soon as possible, because I was in a good mood. I felt the lyrics and the mood of the song, and I always wanted to express myself in the mood like this," he added. The Thai idol admitted that for his solo song, Ten really wanted to get into the lyrics and represent himself through the song.

Is there anything you want to say about the lyrics of the song 'Birthday'? "The lyrics are very sensual, but I hope people don't get too hung up on the words. I hope they can relate it to their own story. And the emotions that are in the song, it can be not only for your lover, but can be for yourself like 'I want every day to be a special day for me'. You can hear it like I'm talking to myself, not to anyone else," explained Ten.

Back in April, you uploaded some pictures on Instagram about the song 'Birthday'. Now in the music video there are also several scenes similar to these pictures. Was it your idea to add it to the music video? "Yeah, that's right. I participated in creating the atmosphere in the music video. I thought of myself dancing in the desert, like a little oasis, but that was really hard to film, right?" said Ten. He added, "So I simplified it.

I wanted to use a mirror, a water tank. If you look at the first scene, there's a wide futuristic platform, but at first it was a bathroom mirror." "I thought about vintage concepts, like pictures I saw on the internet, which are pictures of a bathroom with a dead robot in it. I thought I needed that in my music video," he added. That was a snippet of Ten's interview with GRAMMY.com about his new single 'Birthday'.
