The Korean cult, JMS, is in the spotlight after being discussed in the documentary In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal which aired on Netflix. It is known, there are a number of celebrities involved in the heretical sect. One of them is actor Kang Ji Sub who was once part of JMS. Rumors about his involvement first spread on social media.
An internet user highlighted a post written by Kang Ji Sub in March 2023. In the post, it was written, 'Birthday of my life mentor'. March 16 is known to be the birthday of Jeong Myeong Seok, the leader of the JMS sect. He spent 10 years in prison for abusing some of his followers and is being tried for the same charges after his release in 2018.
Kang Ji Sub finally opened up about his involvement with the heretical sect JMS. The actor born in 1981 admitted that he had joined JMS but decided to leave a few years later. "It's true that I used to be part of JMS, but now I'm not anymore," said Kang Ji Sub in his interview with Yonhap. "It was around 1999 or 2000 when I was still a student.
A JMS member came to me and asked me to study the Bible together. I followed them and joined because I thought the church was just an ordinary church," he explained. Kang Ji Sub admits that he attends services only every weekend. He stopped five years ago after hearing Jeong Myeong Seok's confession that he felt he was the messiah.
"It feels strange because Jeong Myeong Seok calls himself the messiah and people really worship him," concluded Kang Ji Sub. It is known that actor Kang Ji Sub has been active in the world of acting since the 2000s. He most recently starred in the Korean drama Vengeance of the Bride.
