NewJeans seems to never stop reaping achievements and making its fans proud. After a successful debut, achieving high album sales figures, and being labeled as an icon of the current K-Pop generation, NewJeans has now received a new title from TIME magazine: Next Generation Leaders.
TIME has just announced the list of Next Generation Leaders 2023 on their official website. Among popular names from around the world (including Florence Pugh), NewJeans is the group that appears on the list as a representative from South Korea as seen on Wednesday May 24, 2023.
NewJeans' achievements are indeed extraordinary, not even a year since their debut. Min Hee Jin's cold hands under the management of ADOR/HYBE have successfully catapulted the name NewJeans to the K-Pop scene and are aligned with names that have been active for the past two years.
TIME highlighted how NewJeans have swept the charts with their songs, becoming the first act from South Korea to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify in 219 days, to becoming the first K-Pop girl group to perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago in August. Along with the announcement of Next Generation Leaders 2023, TIME also released a video interview with NewJeans.
Hanni and Danielle expressed their feelings in English while Minji joined in in Korean. In the interview, they revealed the difference between NewJeans and other groups so that their feelings could be glimpsed by seniors. The NewJeans members felt very happy when many groups that had debuted before them covered the OMG song on TikTok.
They also didn't expect it because all this time they grew up watching these groups and now after their debut they actually get that much support. "It's great to be able to do what we really enjoy. I feel lucky to be part of K-Pop in this era," Hanni said in the interview.
Danielle added that in the future NewJeans will be ready to wait for other surprises that will be given by their lives and careers. Apart from that, he promises something that will stay fresh in the next release. NewJeans plans to make a comeback this summer. They have prepared a pre-release single which will be released in early July. The MV for this song was filmed in Portugal some time ago.
