One of the EXO member, D.O has just been fined 100,000 won or the equivalent of $75.00 United States Dollar as a result of being caught smoking in the room. Reporting from an Allkpop report on Wednesday September 6, 2023 afternoon KST, the Mapo District Health Service fined D.O after receiving a report from a netizen.
The chronology began when EXO released a video on its official Youtube channel featuring promotional activities for the latest song "Cream Soda" on the MBC Music Core music program. In one of the clips, D.O is caught smoking an e-cigarette in the MBC locker room.
As a result of his actions, the man born in 1993 was reported to the authorities by netizens. "I reported Doh Kyungsoo for smoking indoors in August," said one netizen. The Mapo District Health Office then confirmed the report and stated that it had imposed a fine on D.O according to the provisions of the National Health Law.
The owner's real name, Doh Kyung-soo, initially explained that the cigarettes he used were nicotine-free e-cigarettes. However, neither the D.O nor the agency could provide concrete evidence regarding this statement which resulted in him being fined.
"Even though he (D.O) and his label had made it clear that he was using a nicotine-free e-cigarette, they were unable to provide evidence that the product was nicotine-free in the product description or instructions," the health department said.
"Therefore, they cannot provide evidence that the product is nicotine-free in the product description or instructions," he continued. The Mapo District Health Office said that smoking in a broadcasting institution building is a form of violation. Ending the conflict, D.O is said to have promised to comply with applicable laws as a well-known public figure.
"The individuals involved have promised to comply with the law as public figures in the future," concluded the Mapo District Health Office. Meanwhile, D.O will make a comeback as a solo singer through the mini album Expectation which is planned for release on September 18, 2023.
