Just broadcast on August 31, 2023, the live action series One Piece is said to be continuing into its second season for Netflix. This announcement was made directly by the series producers who revealed that the script for One Piece season 2 had been completed.
"We have a script that is ready," said Marty Adelstein as CEO of Tomorrwo Studios, reported by Variety on Thursday September 7, 2023. However, Adelstein said that the second season of One Piece was still unable to start the production process due to the work strike that was recently carried out by Hollywood actors.
It is certain that the shooting process can only begin when the strike action has reached an agreement, both for the actors and the studio. Once the strike was over, Adelstein also confirmed that the second season of One Piece would air next year. "Realistically, hopefully, one more year if we move very quickly and that is a possibility," he continued.
"Between a year and 18 months we were ready to go live," said Adelstein. Even though Netflix has not officially announced the continuation of the One Piece live action series into a second season, the adaptation of the Japanese manga has achieved great success since its release.
Eiichiro Oda's work was watched 18.5 million times during its four-day premiere. One Piece was also recorded as having been watched for 140.1 million hours for the same period in the English language TV series category. In addition, One Piece broke records by topping in 46 countries and entering the top 10 in 93 countries since four days of release.
With this achievement, One Piece officially overtook the record previously held by the series Wednesday and Stranger Things season four. One Piece tells the story of a teenager named Luffy who has the ambition to sail the seas as a great pirate.
The One Piece live action series was produced directly by Eiichiro Oda as executive producer, also involving Steven Maeda and Matt Owens as showrunners. One Piece also stars five main actors, namely Iñaki Godoy who plays Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
