Perched directly on the Netflix trending row, this does not make One Piece Live Action free from slanted comments from netizens. Premiered at the end of August 2023, One Piece Live Action managed to beat the record for the highest rating on Netflix. One Piece itself is a film adaptation of the very popular manga by Eiichiro Oda.

Following the success of the manga, the One Piece anime has also succeeded in gaining the highest popularity among otaku and now the life action version has also been adapted. Consisting of eight episodes, One Piece live action tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy's adventure to find the treasure left by Gold D. Roger called One Piece.

Luffy's dream of becoming the pirate king sounds ridiculous to anyone who hears about it. This is due to the image of pirates as fugitive criminals from the Marines. Pirates not only sailed across the ocean, they also robbed property and did not hesitate to kill. But even though he was opposed and belittled, Luffy's dream did not disappear.

He had seen pirates with good hearts who did not always use violence to solve problems. He even got a valuable hat which is now Luffy's identification. The straw hat pirate. Together with the crew, Captain Luffy sailed towards the Grand Line to find their own dreams. Even though their path is not easy, they help each other.

Slightly different from other live action anime adaptations, the cast of One Piece is dominated by Western actors. Starting from Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, Nami by Emily Rudd, Usopp by Jacob Romero Gibson, Taz Skylar, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Morgan Davies, and other actors.

The Japanese actor seen in the live action version of One Piece is Mackenyu Arata who plays Roronoa Zoro. This apparently has attracted quite a variety of criticism from fans of the manga and anime One Piece. As seen from one of Netflix's Instagram posts promoting the screening of One Piece live action on September 2, 2023.

Some fans regretted the Japanese dubbing version, but what they saw was the white visuals. Not to mention, those who have enjoyed the One Piece anime say that this live action version feels foreign and different to their ears. Like Luffy's signature move which is often shouted, "Gum Gum no Pistol" becomes "Gomu Gomu Pistol".

Even so, One Piece live action still gets a lot of appreciation from fans. Not a few were very enthusiastic after seeing the trailer which was worked on so seriously. It's true that nothing is perfect, and there will always be positive and negative responses. What do you think about this live action version of One Piece?
