Actress Kim Ji Soo recently talked about her character in her new Korean drama titled ' Romance in the House '. 'Romance in the House' tells the story of a man who divorced his wife and was forced to separate from his family because all his businesses failed.
One day, he reappears in front of his family as the owner of the building where they live. In this drama , Kim Ji Soo plays Geum Ae Yeon, a single mother who divorced her husband, Byun Moo Jin (Jin Jin Hee) and raises their two children alone while facing various difficulties. 'Romance in the House' is a long-awaited project for Kim Ji Soo.
She also revealed the reason why she was interested in joining this drama. "The script was easy to read, and I liked that it was a family story that everyone could relate to. I was especially drawn to the dynamic relationship between the mother, father, and daughter," said Kim Ji Soo as quoted by Soompi on July 29, 2024.
She added, “I had been waiting for a script that told the story in a warm and comedic way, and that's what 'Romance in the House' provided.” Next, Kim Ji Soo shared details about the character of Geum Ae Yeon, a single mother who raises two children alone.
“Geum Ae Yeon became a mother at the age of 20 and became stronger after divorcing her husband Byun Moo Jin. Despite the challenges, she remains charming and lovable. Ae Yeon is cute, caring, strong yet fragile, and has a charming clumsiness. This down-to-earth side of Ae Yeon is what I was looking for in this new role,” she said.
She also worked hard to adjust her acting style for the role. For the character Geum Ae Yeon, she focused on finding the right tone by studying speech patterns in her early twenties. Kim Ji Soo discussed the drama's main appeal, especially the intense family dynamics involving Byun Moo Jin, Geum Ae Yeon, and Byun Mi Rae (played by Son Naeun).
“Moo Jin and Mi Rae compete for Ae Yeon’s affection. Moo Jin tries to win her back by flirting, while Ae Yeon, despite trying to resist, finds herself in emotional conflict,” said Kim Ji Soo. She added, "Meanwhile, Mi Rae, who doesn't want to lose her mother, has complicated feelings for her father. Focusing on these layered emotions makes the story even more interesting."
Through this drama, Kim Ji Soo hopes that her story will help viewers grow with their roles as mothers, fathers, and children, and encourage them to reflect on what family truly means. Meanwhile, 'Romance in the House' will premiere on August 10, 2024, every Saturday and Sunday at 22:30 KST on JTBC.
