The late Lee Sun Kyun's last film 'Land of Happiness' is finally ready to be shown to the audience on August 14, 2024. On August 6, 2024, a press screening and media conference for the film was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by actors Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Jae Myung, and director Choo Chang Min.
'Land of Happiness' tells the story of the trials that took place during the assassination of the President on October 26, 1979 and the subsequent military coup on December 12. The film sheds light on one of South Korea's darkest political trials, a story that is largely unknown to the public.
In this film, Jo Jung Suk plays Jung In Hoo, a lawyer who fights against great power to save Lee Sun Kyun's character. He commented, "Jung In Hoo is a fictional character, but he represents the trial records and events at the time.
I tried to help viewers immerse themselves in the story through Jung In Hoo's perspective." Yoo Jae Myung plays Jeon Sang Doo in the film. He shared, "I didn't have much time to prepare for the role of Jeon Sang Doo, who is driven by personal ambition.
I focused a lot on how to portray this symbolic figure of power without overshadowing the other characters." The late Lee Sun Kyun played Park Tae Joo, a soldier who was very principled. In the film, Jo Jung Suk's character plays his lawyer, who tries to save him.
