The live-action Lilo & Stitch film shows off the first look at the Stitch character design that is planned to be released in 2025. The moment was shared through the D23 2024 event which was held on Friday August 9, 2024 local time. The alien named Stitch was seen appearing from behind the title of the Lilo & Stitch film.
However, no other characters appear in the footage from the social media post. Through the upload, Disney also announced the screening of the live-action film Lilo & Stitch which is planned to be released in the summer of 2025.
"Experiment 626 is in the chat! The live-action #LiloAndStitch is coming to theaters summer 2025!" wrote @DisneyStudios on X (or Twitter). The live-action film will follow the story of the original animated film Lilo & Stitch which first aired in 2002.
The animated film was produced by directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Disney announced the adaptation to live-action format in 2018. Initially, the film was going to be launched on Disney+, but now it has moved to the big screen.
Since then, the Lilo & Stitch live-action film has had quite slow progress. The live-action version of Lilo & Stitch has undergone several changes in directors and scriptwriters. Until now, Dean Fleischer Camp was officially appointed as director with Chris Kekaniokalani Bright as scriptwriter.
Chris Sanders as the creator of the animated version is now trusted again to voice Stitch for the live-action film. Sanders also previously voiced the alien for the animated film. Lilo & Stitch will be enlivened by Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Agudong as Nani Pelekai, and Kaipo Dudoit as David Kawena.
In addition, there is Zach Galifianakis who voices the character Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Amy Hill as Tutu, Tia Carreere plays Kekoa, and Jason Scott Lee as a manager whose name has not been announced.
The character of David Kawena had several cast changes before finally being played by Kaipo Dudoit. The character was originally going to be played by Kahiau, but because the actor had made racial slurs against black people, he was replaced by Kaipo Dudoit.
