The Star Wars : The Acolyte series was confirmed to not be continuing with a second season after the airing of the final episode of the first season on July 16, 2024. The decision comes amidst a first season finale that featured a cliffhanger and included several plotlines that could potentially be developed for a second season.

Deadline reported on Monday 19, 2024 that the news did not come as a surprise to viewers as the numbers had been steadily declining since its premiere on June 4. The first two episodes recorded 4.8 million views and increased to 11.1 million views globally over five days of streaming.

According to Disney data , the Star Wars series debuted on Nielsen's Top 10 Originals chart in its first week at No. 7 (488 million minutes watched) and rose to No. 6 the following week. However, The Acolyte was unable to maintain that momentum and ended up dropping out of the Top 10 in its 3rd week and held on to return to No. 10 after the release of its finale with a total viewership of 335 million minutes.

Star Wars: The Acolyte focuses on the High Republic era, just before the events of George Lucas' main Star Wars film series. The story takes place about 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. In that time, a Jedi Master named Sol (Lee Jung-jae) is known as a respected warrior and teacher. One day, he and other Jedi discover a series of mysterious Jedi murders.

The case leads Sol to an unexpected encounter. Osha has a twin sister named Mae who was separated long ago. The two were separated in a tragedy when they were young. Mae was even thought to be dead by Ocha until she finally reappeared and emerged as a dangerous warrior who could threaten the glory of the Jedi.

He meets a former Padawan named Osha (Amandla Stenberg) who is Sol's former student and left the Jedi Order due to her chaotic relationship with The Force. Star Wars: The Acolyte is produced by Leslye Headland. The creator and showrunner has been working on the project since 2020 until October 2022.
