BLACKPINK's Jennie has been hotly discussed by netizens after releasing a short voice message in which she called her fans "Rubies". She asked them to look forward to what will happen next. "Hi, Rubies! It's Jennie. Stay tuned for more updates, and see you later. I love you guys.
See you!" Jennie said in a voice message uploaded on her agency's website on Thursday, September 19, 2024. This has led to speculation that Jennie’s official fandom name might be “Rubies.” For your information, Jennie has registered a trademark for “Jennie Ruby Jane,” which is her full English name.
Most of her fans are happy with Jennie's new nickname for her fans. However, the BLACKPINK member also received criticism from Korean netizens because of its similarity to the fandom name of singer Kwon Eun Bi . As is well known, the fandom name of K-Pop solo artist Kwon Eun Bi is "RUBI".
Korean netizens were disappointed that Jennie and her agency were seen as not doing any research to check the fandom name before making the announcement. “ It’s already been used. This is not right. Kwon Eun Bi’s fans have every right to be angry, and she’s also active.
Didn’t they check it first ,” wrote a netizen. “ The fandom name is the same as another solo artist’s. This is so rude, and they’re just trying to get away with it based on clout ,” wrote another netizen. After receiving criticism, Jennie's agency finally cleared up the misunderstanding.
They denied Jennie's fandom name was "Rubies". "Jennie only used the term 'Rubies' to address her fans in a recent news story, and this is not an official announcement of her fandom name," said an OA Entertainment representative.
BLACKPINK's Jennie is currently gearing up for a comeback with a new solo single set to be released in October 2024 after signing a partnership with major American record label Columbia Records. This will be Jennie's first solo release since "You & Me."
