Robert Pattinson is reportedly not going to join The Batman spin-off titled The Penguin. Director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the actor will not appear as Batman for the series.
The Penguin is still being produced by director Matt Reeves who tells the story of everything that happened in The Batman (2022), including the death of crime boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). "Rob will not be in The Penguin. I'd rather be upfront about it now," Matt Reeves said, as reported by Comic Book on Monday September 9, 2024.
Although Robert Pattinson does not appear in the spin-off, Reeves said the Dark Knight's presence will still be felt when Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) begins to emerge and rule Gotham's underworld. "When you're doing The Batman, Batman and Bruce are the primary viewpoints.
To explore the villains, they're never going to get the space that we could have in a series. So Batman being in this [show] is just a sense of him being there," he continued. Collin Farrell previously teased the story for the first episode of the series. The Batman (2022) spin-off will be set one week after the end of The Batman.
Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot or Penguin actor said the series will begin with Gotham still under water due to the actions of the Riddler (Paul Dano) who detonated a bomb up to the city's embankment. "The story picks up about a week after The Batman ended, so Gotham is still under water," Farrell said, as reported by Variety in October 2022.
"I read the script in the first episode that opened with a scene of my feet getting splashed in water as I walk into Falcone's office. In fact, when I just read that, I was like, 'Oh my God!'" Farrell said. Colin Farrell will appear in the series alongside Cristin Milioti, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.
Matt Reeves is now serving as executive producer of The Penguin. The Penguin will consist of eight episodes that serve as a gateway to The Batman Part II. The series is confirmed to air in the second half of 2024 on Max or HBO GO.
