Dark Night and Dawn tells the story of a massive explosion in Shanghai resulting in a confrontation between Communist Party secret agent Lu Zheng Yang (Nie Yuan) and former police officer Lin Shao Bai (Chen Zhe Yuan), who each show off their skills.
Six years later, Shanghai was liberated, and Lu Zheng Yang became a core member of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau's anti-espionage efforts.
