Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, are said to have raised more than US$40,000 for presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign. This was announced on Monday September 16, 2024 or one day after Donald Trump uploaded a post expressing his hatred for the musician.

The Republican candidate posted " I hate Taylor Swift !" on Truth Social on Sunday morning (September 15, 2024). The post was later used by the organization 'Swifties for Kamala' to raise money for her Democratic rival. "When we saw the post, we knew this was an opportunity," Carly Long, a member of the group's communications team, said in a statement, reported by AFP.

"We use memes to grab people's attention, and then tell them how to turn that emotion into action. Swifties know the haters are gonna hate, but we also know we can do more than just shake, shake, shake ." Fans supporting Kamala Harris aren’t officially affiliated with the artist who brought them together.

They say they’ve now raised more than $207,000 since starting the fundraising effort. A few weeks ago, they even held their first fundraising call attended by 27,000 viewers with appearances from many stars, such as Carole King with Senator Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Ed Markey.

Taylor Swift herself supports Kamala Harris and her running mate in fighting Donald Trump as the new president of the United States. She announced her support through a post on her personal Instagram. "I voted for @kamalaharris because she has fought for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to fight for them," said Taylor Swift.

Swifties for Kamala is also planning additional outreach efforts, particularly in states that are less politically clear and on the remaining dates of the Eras Tour.  The event is scheduled to return to Miami on October 18, 2024. Co-founder Irene Kim said in a statement that the group is “a testament to the power that Swifties have.” "We build on the existing culture of fandom and make voting and politics accessible."
