Superhero film Blade has been officially delayed indefinitely by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film project starring Mahershala Ali is no longer scheduled for release after its release date was removed from the Marvel Studios calendar.

As reported by Variety on Tuesday October 22, 2024, Blade was initially given a release slot on November 7, 2025. Disney, Marvel's parent company, then filled that date for the release of the film Predator: Badlands. Blade then did not get another release date, either before or after the original schedule.

On the other hand, Marvel Studios added three new dates for the still-secret project. The three dates are February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028. The decision to remove Blade from the release calendar is said to be due to Disney CEO Bob Iger's stated policy of wanting to release three films per year for Marvel Studios.

So, referring to that decision, Blade is a film that is removed from the MCU film release schedule for 2025. This is because three films are ready to air next year, namely Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Blade is a project that has yet to start production, and has even had problems since it was first announced.  The development of the Blade project continues to hit a dead end after the director has repeatedly left.

The film was originally directed by Bassam Tariq before he decided to step down in 2022. It was then continued by Yann Demange who also stepped down in June 2024. Blade is a reboot of Wesley Snipes' Blade released in 1998 or the pre-MCU era.

Snipes' Blade was later released in the late 1990s and developed into a trilogy until 2004. The vampire hunter character then returned to Marvel in 2012 and was discussed to be developed with Mahershala Ali as the lead, namely Eric Cross Brooks in 2019.

Meanwhile, Wesley Snipes has already appeared in the MCU as Blade when he played a cameo in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. Snipes was a surprise character who appeared alongside Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and X-23 (Dafne Keen).
