Squid Game 2 Teaser Shows Seong Gi-hun's Motive Returns, Officially Released

Netflix officially released the Squid Game season 2 teaser on Friday November 1, 2024 on YouTube. The nearly two-minute teaser finally reveals Seong Gi-hun's (Lee Jung-jae) motive for returning to the deadly game after surviving the first season.

The teaser begins with hundreds of participants in the latest Squid Game edition lining up to enter the arena in green participant tracksuits. Seong Gi-hun is then seen as one of the participants and again gets number 456. However, he did not smile like when he first joined Squid Game in the first season. 

His expression changed to a gloomy one filled with revenge and anger. Gi-hun and hundreds of other participants then entered the first game arena, namely Red Light Green Light. He then begins a mission to return to the deadly game. Gi-hun tries to guide the participants to survive their first game. However, he still had trouble controlling the hundreds of participants. 

Victims then began to fall in the game. The teaser continues as the contestants are given the chance to either leave the game or continue. Gi-hun asks all contestants not to continue the game. He persuaded all the participants to leave the arena, because he had experienced terror that threatened his life in the previous edition. 

Another teaser shows clips from other scenes in Squid Game season 2, such as when contestants start getting killed one by one while playing the game. Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), a police officer who is investigating the game, also appears and brings reinforcements to capture the place. 

Squid Game 2 still stars Lee Jung-jae, Gong Yoo, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon. The series also features a new cast of actors joining the second season, starting from Park Gyu-young, Choi Seung-hyun or TOP, Lee Jin-wook, Jo Yuri, Won Ji-an, to Kang Ae-sim.

There are also Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun who were previously announced. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won an Emmy Award for the first season of Squid Game, will return as director and executive producer for Squid Game season 2.
