The Harry Potter series produced by Warner Bros Discovery will begin filming in the summer of 2025 in Leavesden, the same location where the Harry Potter films were filmed. Filming will take place after the creative team led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod auditioned 32,000 children for the series.
The figure was achieved after the casting team reviewed between 500 and 1,000 audition videos per day, which is still being done to this day, Variety reported on Thursday December 5, 2024. However, Mylod said his team has not yet made a final decision on player selection. He revealed the next step that will be taken is to hold a workshop with "several selected candidates" in January.
However, some characters have already been cast, such as the character of Severus Snape who will be played by Paapa Essiedu. The casting follows the age of JK Rowling's character in the book, namely Snape who is in his 30s because James and Lily Potter died at the age of 21 while saving Harry from Voldemort.
On the other hand, Mylod said he wants to use brilliant British theater actors for the adult roles. As for the teenage characters, they will recruit newcomers. Gardiner said he was very excited to learn the character arcs of the Harry Potter universe and bring them to life in this series, considering that the series comes more than a decade after the release of the last film in the saga.
