Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially completed their divorce proceedings since filing eight years ago. They separated after Jolie filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. James Simon, the actress' attorney, said Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt signed their divorce documents on Monday December 30, 2024.
Simon said the signing was the final chapter after a long divorce process since 2016. "This is part of a long process that started eight years ago. Honestly, Angelina is exhausted, but she's relieved that this part is over," Simon said.
In the statement, Angelina Jolie also agreed to attend a mediation session as an alternative form of dispute resolution. On the other hand, as reported by People on Monday December 30, 2024, Brad Pitt has also been confirmed to be taking part in the mediation.
However, Brad Pitt's party did not provide an official explanation regarding his stance on this divorce settlement. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016. The lawsuit was filed two years after their marriage.
They declared themselves single on April 12, 2019. However, Jolie and Pitt's problems were not over because of the winery issue. Brad Pitt is suing Angelina Jolie for selling the actress' assets in their winery to a third party.
Angelina Jolie also sued Brad Pitt in another case. The Hollywood actor was accused of physically and verbally abusing his family on a plane in 2016. Jolie also told the FBI that Brad Pitt physically and verbally assaulted her and her children. The FBI then met with an assistant U.S. attorney.
FBI agents concluded that neither would press criminal charges. That prompted Angelina Jolie to anonymously file a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the FBI to obtain documents related to the federal investigation into Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt's name was later cleared by the FBI. The FBI closed the case in 2016 without charging the actor. The Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services also claimed there was no evidence of abuse from the incident and declared the case officially closed.
