Label ADOR released a new statement after five members of NewJeans announced a new name, NJZ. They stated that promoting under a new name was not in accordance with the label's agreement. “On February 7, 2025, NewJeans announced they would be promoting under a new name that had not been approved by ADOR.
This caused confusion among reporters as we received many inquiries regarding this issue,” ADOR said. They explained that NewJeans' contract with ADOR was still valid and the termination of the contract by the five members was invalid.
"The exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans is still legally valid and the claim of termination is only unilateral. We have filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the contract and are waiting for the court's decision," he said.
"We ask reporters to use the name 'NewJeans' as per the contract when writing articles. We ask reporters who are familiar with exclusive contracts in the entertainment industry to cooperate so that accurate articles can be delivered," the label concluded.
Last week, the five members of NewJeans announced their new name, NJZ. This new name was created after they terminated their contracts with ADOR and HYBE. They also did exclusive interviews with international media to avoid any misunderstanding.
NJZ will also be headlining ComplexCon in Hong Kong where they will be showcasing a new song with a new concept. The court ruling from ADOR questioning the individual advertising contracts of NewJeans members will be determined through a hearing on March 7, 2025.
