MAMAMOO's Wheein recently shared her experiences about her life without an agency on KBS 2TV's 'The Seasons: Lee Young Ji's Rainbow' which aired on February 14, 2025. On that occasion, Wheein casually revealed that currently she is a 'free agent' or independent artist.
"I feel like a free soul," he said with a smile, as quoted by Allkpop on Saturday (02/15/2025). After parting ways with her previous agency, Wheein admitted that she has received many offers from various companies. However, she still wants to take time to consider the best steps in her career.
"I want to make the right decision and not rush it," she explained. When asked about the benefits of being an independent artist, Wheein honestly answered, "The best part? The money! All the earnings go directly to me, that's a big benefit," she said with a laugh.
As part of MAMAMOO, the group was previously reported to earn an annual income of 20.2 billion KRW (approximately 14 million USD), proving their incredible success in the music industry. However, behind that freedom, there are also challenges that they must face. "The hard thing is that I have to take care of everything myself.
Even small things like renting a car I have to take care of myself. There are no more conveniences like when I was at the agency," she said. Regarding the criteria she is looking for in an agency, Wheein emphasized the importance of balance between work and personal life.
"I really enjoy making albums and working in the music world, but I also need time to rest. I didn't have much time to rest before, so now I appreciate it more," she explained. Wheein also took this opportunity to promote herself to potential agencies who might be interested in working with her.
"I can do various genres. I don't limit myself—I have a unique voice, specializing in R&B, sometimes I rap too, and I often perform with a band," he said confidently. "I take great care of my staff, so many of them have been with me for eight to 10 years.
