Kim Soo Hyun, has reportedly canceled his scheduled fan meeting in Taiwan. The event was supposed to be held on March 30, 2025 as part of the Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival, hosted by 7-Eleven Taiwan. However, the official cancellation announcement was made via 7-Eleven Taiwan's official Instagram account on March 25, 2025.
In their statement, the organizers stated that the event was canceled due to a schedule conflict. They also ensured that all points that had been used for the event would be returned within three business days and could be used until December 31, 2026, as reported by Allkpop on Wednesday March 26, 2025.
However, many speculate that the cancellation is related to the controversy that Kim Soo Hyun is currently embroiled in. Some time ago, the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute revealed allegations that Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship with actress Kim Sae Ron since 2016, when Kim Sae Ron was still a minor.
Kim Sae Ron's family claims that the relationship lasted for six years, and they also revealed evidence in the form of handwritten letters and photos that allegedly show the closeness of the two. In response to the allegations, Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, denied that their relationship occurred while Kim Sae Ron was still a minor.
They emphasized that the two only started dating in the summer of 2019 until the fall of 2020, when Kim Sae Ron had reached adulthood. The agency also denied allegations that Kim Soo Hyun did not help Kim Sae Ron's financial situation, stating that the actor had paid off Kim Sae Ron's debts amounting to hundreds of millions of KRW.
The situation escalated when Gold Medalist took legal action against those who spread Kim Soo Hyun's personal information. On March 20, 2025, the agency filed a lawsuit against Garosero Research Institute and an individual claiming to be Kim Sae Ron's aunt, on charges of spreading illegal materials in violation of South Korea's Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Several explicit photos of Kim Soo Hyun have reportedly been circulating, including one that shows the actor in an inappropriate state. The cancellation of this fan meeting not only impacts the fans but also has financial consequences for the organizers.
It is estimated that 7-Eleven Taiwan will suffer a loss of around 1.3 billion KRW due to this cancellation. In addition, the plan to release an exclusive product with Kim Soo Hyun's image is also threatened to fail. Not only that, according to Koreaboo on the same Wednesday, the impact of this controversy also had an impact on Kim Soo Hyun's acting projects.
Her Disney+ drama 'Knock-off', which was previously scheduled to air in the first half of this year, has now been postponed indefinitely. In addition, her appearance on MBC's variety show 'Good Day' has also been edited out of the show. Before the cancellation of the fan meeting was announced, the event was still scheduled to take place despite the controversy.
In fact, the organizers were said to have prepared 50 police officers to maintain security for the event. However, the decision to cancel was ultimately taken, allegedly to avoid potential disruption due to protests or negative reactions from the public. This situation raises a big question mark regarding the future of Kim Soo Hyun's career.
If this controversy continues and leads to further sanctions, the actor who has long been one of the biggest stars in the Korean entertainment industry could face a difficult time maintaining his reputation. Fans can now only wait for further developments regarding this case and the steps that Kim Soo Hyun and his agency will take going forward.
