Good news for fans of South Korean actor Lee Do Hyun ! The actor who was born in 1995 managed to take home the Best New Actor award at the 23rd Directors Cut Awards which was held on May 20, 2025.

The prestigious event organized by the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK) is the only award event in South Korea where the winners are directly selected by Korean film and series directors through a voting process.

This year, the event was hosted by directors Kim Cho Hee and Bong Man Dae and included 13 award categories for films and series. Lee gained recognition for his role as Bong Gil, a novice shaman in the film ' Exhuma .'

The role showcased a different side of the actor, especially with his striking appearance—a body covered in tattoos and a tied-back hairstyle. His visual transformation and character development were said to be very captivating for audiences and critics.

He performed intensely in scenes of séances and spiritual rituals, showing her extraordinary acting ability in the supernatural thriller genre. This victory feels even more special because it was achieved only seven days after officially completing his military service.

Even while still serving last year, he had won a similar award at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards, showing his consistency as a talented actor who is worthy of being reckoned with in the Korean film industry. The film 'Exhuma' itself was the main highlight of the awards night with a total of four major wins.

Reporting from Soompi on Thursday May 22, 2025, in addition to the award for Lee, actress Kim Go Eun also won the Best Actress award, while director Jang Jae Hyun was named Best Director and Best Screenwriter.

The win demonstrates the cinematic power of 'Exhuma' which successfully combines a mystical story with a profound and bold cinematographic approach. Reporting from Asianwiki, 'Exhuma' tells the story of a wealthy family from Los Angeles who experience a series of strange supernatural events.

To find answers, they contact two famous young shamans, Hwa Rim (Kim Go Eun) and Bong Gil. After investigating, Hwa Rim realizes that the strange events are related to the family's ancestors. She then seeks help from feng shui expert Sang Deok (Choi Min Sik) and undertaker Young Geun (Yoo Hae Jin).

They find the ancestral tomb in a remote village in South Korea, and decide to dig it up—which leads them into something far more dangerous. This year's Directors Cut Awards were held privately, but the announcement of the winners still attracted public attention.

As quoted from Sportskeeda, this year's winners came not only from films, but also from the series category, with Lee Hee Joon and Bae Doo Na taking home the Best Actor and Actress awards for the series 'A Killer Paradox' and 'Family Matters.'

In addition to taking home the prestigious award, Lee is also preparing to greet his fans through an Asian fan meeting tour titled 'Re DO HYUN.' The tour will start on June 14-15 at Sungshin Women's University's Woonjung Green Campus, Seoul. He will then continue the tour to eight other cities such as Jakarta, Osaka, Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Manila.

This tour is certainly highly anticipated, considering his increasing popularity after appearing in a number of successful projects.  Since his debut, Lee has been known as a dedicated actor who does not hesitate to take on unique roles.

Through this award, he has once again proven that his hard work pays off. With a combination of acting talent, attractive visuals, and sincerity towards his fans, Lee Do Hyun is one of the young Korean actors to be reckoned with in the future.
